Coping with Difficult Emotions

We are emotional creatures, and a personal illness or that of a loved one can bring up all sorts of emotions and feelings you didn’t realize were there. Laughter, sadness, fear, hope, love, confusion, frustration, and serenity all have their places in the mix, but when the difficult emotions start becoming the dominant feelings, it can affect other aspects of your life.

How we cope with these emotions is up to each one of us, but productive ways include gratitude, goal setting, mindfulness and finding creative outlets.

Speak with a Mettle Health counselor about your situation and learn about coping techniques that may assist you when tough emotions arise, or learn how to name the feelings so that they aren’t so scary anymore.
