Caregiver Support Groups
We at Mettle Health believe that caregiving is best done as a team sport, not in isolation. We each have a unique experience we bring to the mix and others can learn from you, and vice versa.
Our caregiver support groups are meant to be a safe space for you to learn, scream, laugh, cry and connect with fellow caregivers under the guidance of one of our palliative- trained counselors. Each cohort meets six times over the course of three months to discuss aspects of caregiving, ask questions, share ideas, and get guidance where you need it.
We will start each session with an overview related to an aspect of being a caregiver, and then open it up to the group for discussion on the topic at hand or pivot to specific questions from attendees.
Week 1: The Basics and Mechanics of Caregiving
Week 2: A Change in Roles - How Caregiving Can Alter Relationships
Week 3: The Importance of Caring for Yourself
Week 4: Dealing with Difficult Emotions and Difficult Situations
Week 5: What It Means to be a Proxy and How to Advocate
Week 6: Managing Communication and Conflict
The session topics are a suggested road map that can be altered based on the need of the group, so please bring your thoughts and questions.
Caregiver Group FAQs
1. How often will groups meet? Groups will meet every other week for a total of six sessions over the course of three months. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14 with the final meeting on Tuesday, November 23.
2. How many people will be in a group? We think small is good and allows for more intimacy and connection, while being large enough to include a wealth of experiences and points of view to draw from. To that end, we're capping each group at eight people with a single facilitator.
3. How long is each session? Each facilitated session runs for 75 minutes. In between sessions, communication among the group is encouraged if desired, (but not mandatory).
5. How much does a group cost? Our caregiver groups are $550 for the six sessions. If you have a financial hardship and would like to discuss options with us, please do not hesitate to reach out to find out about our sliding scale: info@mettlehealth.com
6. What if I can't make it at this time? Not to worry, we have more group schedules coming and will alert you once they're up for booking.
