Migraine and headache awareness month

One aspect of suffering that is especially tricky is when your symptoms and illness are not obvious to the naked eye, or something that’s not given a lot of airspace in our society. This is not to say that any one illness or affliction is more important than another, more just a call out that we tend to understand and respect certain afflictions over others. One member of the Mettle Health family suffers with migraines and so this post is both a dedication to her, but also education for what it really entails so we can be more empathetic towards people who are also dealing with this.

Because migraines are typically compared to a “really bad headache”, it’s easy for us (“us" here meaning the non-migraine havers) to dismiss it and wonder why people can’t just take an aspirin and get over it? There’s a lot more that goes into it and for those who have migraines you know it can be an absolutely debilitating time that removes you from your work, your family, your errands and generally screws with your daily life, to put it lightly. And for those who are taking care of someone who gets migraines, that can be another type of suffering due to watching your loved one in immense pain and not having a way to fix or relieve it.

Do you suffer from migraines? If so, what’s the most difficult aspect or what do you wish people knew about what you experience? And to add to the theme of suffering due to society’s misunderstanding, let us know if you have a condition you’d like us to shine a light on. The more we know about what others are going through, the better off we’ll be.
