LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
Healthcare inequality is a huge issue that we’d like to shine a light on during Pride Month. (It’s an issue we like to shine a light on every day of every month, but we’ll shout it from the social rooftops today)
If an LGBTQIA+ person has a bad experience with a medical professional, they might choose to stay away from health care settings altogether and we understand why. Who wants extra shame or having to deal with the projections of others?
Sadly this leads to delays in care and that means more difficult outcomes when serious illness is already fraught with infantilization, guilt, and isolation.
We can’t pretend to know how to fix these institutionalized barriers in healthcare that lead to inequality, but we can say that we want to provide a safe space for anyone to come and talk about their health without stigma or judgement. Whole person care means just that: celebrating and considering all that makes you YOU.
