Donating Major Organs

Did you know…

…that if you want to donate any of your major organs you need to die in a hospital?

(Please note we are speaking to deaths that are expected here, not an accident like a car crash)

It’s true! Only a hospital will have the necessary equipment on hand to keep organs viable for transplant. While organ donation is a beautiful impulse, when it’s someone who is at the end of their life due to advanced age or illness, it can be very difficult, nay almost impossible, to plan for the time of death and be within hospital walls when it happens.

If you are someone who resonates the idea of donating your organs, we encourage you to learn more about willed body programs. While you can’t say exactly how your body will be used because geographically the programs are different, many times it’s for educational purposes and that’s nothing but wonderful in our eyes.

If you like this idea, you’ll need to plan ahead and get your registered before the time of death. Then when your time comes, your family calls the program and they come and pick up your body.
