Did you know…
….that you can choose to know as much, or as little, as you want about your prognosis?
It’s true! Just because your doctor has a prognosis to tell you, does not mean you need to hear all the details. In fact, some people prefer to know less because knowing more can lead to additional stress or counting down the days until the "end" of that prognosis comes up. On the other hand, knowing everything may be exactly what you need to plan out your time, or maybe you’re somewhere in between. The point here is that you, the person with the diagnosis, can be in control of this flow of information if that’s what you wish.
Hand in hand with that control, is saying yes or no to treatment. Just because an option is offered, does not mean you need to take it. At certain points in our lives, it can be an easy choice to choose a surgery or a new round of medications, but as time goes on, that choice may not be so obvious and it’s totally fine to take a step back and decide that it’s not for you. These choices of course are best made with those you trust and your clinical team, but our point again is that you can be in the drivers seat.
