You Understand Being Small
As a dog, I contemplate my place in the world all the time. Why am I here? What is the meaning of life? Is this all just a waking dream? KIDDING! I know it’s all about sticks and bones and tennis balls. But it's something you humans grapple with so I’ll contemplate you for a moment.
Sometimes taking a pause to stop and think about your place in the universe can have a startling effect. When you gaze out at something like the Grand Canyon or a starry night, you can feel like a tiny part of a massive universe swirling around. This might feel scary, but that sensation of being a small speck in an ever moving universe might also make you feel better and can actually make you a kinder, more generous person!
Something I read in the Washington Post recently said: “When you shrink, your ability to see somehow sharpens. When you see the beauty, vastness and fragility of nature, you want to preserve it. You see what we share, and how we connect. You understand being small.”
So can we try getting small? It might just have a huge impact.
