Is palliative care right for you?

Because palliative care is generally misunderstood, it can be tricky to know when to ask for it, or know when it’s appropriate for yourself or someone you’re caring for. A lot of the times people put it off, saying “I’m not ready for that yet”, but it’s appropriate for many moments along a trajectory of illness, not just when someone is at the end of their life. We here at Mettle Health hope for a day when everyone has access to this type of care and can ask for it when they receive a diagnosis, not just when dealing with the diagnosis becomes extra stressful and complex.

There are some questions we can ask to determine if palliative care is appropriate, (spoiler alert: it usually is!), and one of them is “Are you dealing with a chronic or serious illness?”. If the answer is yes, congratulations, you’re eligible to receive guidance and support from a palliative care clinician.
