Hospice care team

We’re going to be honest: at the end of this discussion we looked at each other and said, “wow, that should have been a 3 hour discussion with a lunch break” cause there is just SO MUCH NUANCE when it comes to hospice care. We also found ourselves wishing that we had a team of hospice clinicians in the zoom room to talk about what it feels like on their end ('cause trust us, it doesn’t feel great to them when it does’t feel great to you).

Another important note: we are saddened just hearing the negative experiences that so many people have had. There is no one agency that mandates what and how hospices act, and that causes many different experiences to occur. We wish that every time we suggested that someone reach out to hospice care it would be a given that they felt held, supported and cared for, but that’s not the case and we want to acknowledge that reality. This means we, as caregivers and patients and people, need to know about how to advocate for ourselves even more than we already did, OY!

All that to say that there’s good information in here, but it might feel like it brings up a lot of questions instead of answering them. We’ll continue working behind the scenes to figure out how we can really cover all there is when it comes to hospice, (it might have to be a week long retreat…)
